Peer Support Advocate Program

The Wounded Blue is working to de-stigmatize mental health within the law enforcement community through its Peer Advocate Support Program and community outreach. The Peer Advocate Support Program handles nearly 100 calls a week from officers. Each member or our highly trained peer team is a former or current law enforcement officer, with many disabling injuries among the group. They know the environment, exposures, and traumas officers encounter daily. They are a trusted confidant.

Accepting that one is struggling with PTSI is the first step for many officers. Seeking an outlet for support is second.

The Wounded Blue provides a reliable foundation for first line support. A simple phone call to a stranger with similar experiences can hugely impact the life of an officer. There is immediate trust, validation, and confidentiality, which breaks down barriers when a person is in a vulnerable state.

The peer advocates understand that every law enforcement officer injured, physically or emotionally, in the line of duty has unique needs. This team stands ready to answer the calls, listen to the officer’s story, and assist or access other resources for that individual, as needed. Many officers who are seriously injured or disabled in the line of duty experience feelings of abandonment and isolation. The Wounded Blue Peer Advocate Support Team is always a reminder that they are “Never Forgotten, Never Alone”.

The S.E.A.L. Strategy

The Wounded Blue’s Mission is to improve the lives of injured and disabled Law Enforcement Officers through Support, Education, Assistance and Legislation.  We achieve this by using the exception peer team members, partners and advocates for the hurting and broken.

SUPPORT

Create and provide training presentations on The Wounded Blue issues of PTSD, abandonment, emotional/mental health, suicide, and compassionate care to Law Enforcement Leadership and Rank/File Officers. Utilize International Association of Chiefs of Police, National Sheriffs’ Association, State Chiefs and Sheriffs’ Associations, Fraternal Order of Police, Police Benevolent Association, Unions and Law Enforcement Organizations. Provide PTSD prevention training to Active Duty Officers.

Do you need Assistance?

So many times, officers travel down the difficult road by themselves.  The premise of thinking is a variety of: "It's not that bad" or "the Department has forgotten about me so no one cares" or "I don't have any hope left".    We can help.  Please contact us by using the tab below if you or someone you know is in need of a helping hand or a listening ear.
